Technoda 855 is one part of a three piece series entitled "Bridal Song." The image of the bird wrapped in henna patterning and in turn surrounding smaller henna patterning is duplicated throughout the full series. Music is a big part of my artistic process from inspiration to the actual presentation of instruments in some of the works. The girl in the central piece of "Bridal Song" is seen playing the piano surrounded by the birds that are ultimately reproduced in Technoda 855. Much of the paint work that I do is designed to convey a sense of motion and that motion is often inspired by a musical rhythm. The flutter of wings, the swirl of henna pattern, the dripping of paint - all sway to the groove of the central piece, and are captured at a specific moment in time. Even the name Technoda conveys a musical undertone. Although I use the central "Bridal Song" piece to describe Technoda 855, I did not actually begin with that design in mind. I started with the side flanking Technoda 855 and sister piece Technoda 166 and created the final central piece to tie the two together. The Technoda series was the first and only time in my career that I have duplicated a painting with color variations. I was so inspired by the first piece that I went on to paint the sister Technoda 166 and later that year created a third green version in Technoda 811.
