Mike Snyder

The sculpturesI produce are mostly abstract forms that are cast in bronze and aluminum.  I like to work with a contrast of elements [textures from smooth to rough, from dull to highly polished, from dark to light].  I use the elements for good design that I learned in my Architectural training which apply to any discipline of the design field [balance, aesthetics, form, repetition (rhythm), texture, lighting/shades and shadows, contrast, integration, color, etc.].

The paintingsare canvas stretched over a structure I build.  The parts are assembled to create one form.  Each part will have raised areas that form facets which catch the light in different ways to produce shades and shadows across the shape of the painting.  These change at different times of the day as the sun moves from East to West or as you move about in a room.  I like to use, once again, a contrast using bright colors against a plain white.  The colored areas may also be substituted with custom color schemes or textured metal surfaces with patinas of various colors.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mike Snyder was born in Denver Colorado.  He graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado in 1966 with a Bachelor of Architectural degree and a minor in Fine Art and Design.  Since then, he has been involved in numerous architectural, mural, and art projects, and was accepted to participate in many juried art shows and exhibitions at Galleries and Art Museums.  Many of his works are in private and corporate art collections.
