ARTIST STATEMENT

I have a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art from Cal State University of Hayward and attended graduate School of Technical Theater at the University of Denver. I worked as a costume, makeup designer and then later as set designer for the Denver Civic Theater and Colorado Ballet. I continued on as a Freelance Designer for the Colorado Opera Troupe, CU College of Music, Imperial Ballet, Dark Age Entertainment and Lunar-Leaf Films.

Whether on paper, a wall, on the pavement or in the process of putting on a show for the neighborhood kids, as long as I can remember, I have always drawn, painted, and and worked on ideas for stage shows. I came to the United States to pursue my education. I later married and started to work and raise my family.

I started to draw and paint as part of my job with performing arts and occasionally painted for my own entertainment. Then I saw photos of war, world disasters and human suffering. I felt their remorse, rage, happiness and passion. I felt that I could portray all my emotions through paintings of these photos. I thought, my work will be another way of showing what goes on in the world as does the news, photography and movies.

I enjoy human features, especially the eyes which to me is the window to the inner soul and can tell stories. I have also been extremely inspired by elderly, the women and the children of the many countries that I have visited or read about. After all, they are the ones who always suffer the most.

I could safely call myself an Impressionist Artist, I use acrylics on canvas or paper, while using bold bright colors to capture the inner soul of my object. I occasionally use pen, ink, charcoal and watercolor.
