| SILENT AUCTION - DECEMBER 15, 2011 "Kill Bill" Movie Memorabilia: Benefiting the Denver Rescue Mission A rare opportunity to own original art that does double-duty as movie memorabilia has come up for auction in Denver, thanks to Rod Grier. Grier was commissioned by Quentin Tarantino to create original art pieces for the set of Kill Bill – Volume 1. Much of the art can be seen — and can be seen being destroyed — in the opening fight sequence between Uma Thurman and Vivica A. Fox. Luckily, the fight scene used replicas and the original art survives. Fourteen pieces featured in the movie, along with several other pieces by Grier, will be sold in a silent auction December 15, 2011 at Artwork Network at 878 Santa Fe Drive in Denver. The event is free and open to the public from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Denver Rescue Mission. Online bids can be made at ArtworkNetwork.com. Tarantino found the artist in a unique way. Grier’s sister, Pam Grier, starred in Tarantino’s film Jackie Brown. Having been invited to the premier of the movie by his sister, Grier packed up some of his artwork in a plastic trash bag, carried it up the red carpet to Quentin Tarantino and introduced himself. Tarantino was impressed enough to call Grier four years later to commission work for the Kill Bill – Volume 1 film.
