September/October 2012 Exhibition
After years of painting vibrant, colorful artwork, Gus Harper’s newest collection is all white. From September 6th – October 29th, Harper’s paintings take a detour from punctuating the walls of Hollywood sets to exhibit at Artwork Network in Denver.
Like the Beatles’ White Album, Harper’s “Fade to White” is a soulful, introspective collection. Punctuated with words like “Hope” and “Grace”, the exhibited pieces are subdued in color and intended as serene. “The paintings touch on themes ranging from primal man to ethereal bliss and are ultimately a celebration of the human condition,” Harper describes. This statement alone is enough to understand why a piece from the “Fade to White” exhibit will be showcased on nine episodes of Showtime’s Dexter before its trip out to Denver.
So why white? “I’ve always been moved by numerous white marble figurative statues and I wanted my figures to have a sculpted look,” Harper explained. “The faces in this series are inspired by Michelangelo’s Slaves – and just as those figures are embedded in giant chunks of marble, these faces quietly fade into the background of the canvases. I was also inspired by the Moai statues of Easter Island, thus the carved, sometimes primitive looking images in some of these pieces.”
Be sure to catch Gus Harper’s work on such notable programs as Modern Family, New Girl, Up All Night, CSI Las Vegas, and Entourage, as well as Disney’s The Muppets.

Organized Chaos: June Exhibition
Phil Bender & Curt Fowler Exhibit at Artwork Network June 1st – 30th
Organization and abstraction come together for a month long exhibit at Artwork Network during June 2012. Colorado artists Phil Bender and Curt Fowler display their newest works.
Is it raining Phil Bender? Bender’s second show this month (his other exhibit, “Games People Play” runs at Pirate Gallery from June 1st – 17th) features an array of wooden objects collected by Denver’s friendliest hoarder. This display of ordinary items arranged into simple repeating patterns force the viewer to examine the everyday in an uncommon light.
Also on exhibit are works by self proclaimed ‘painter chaotica’, Curt Fowler. “I see chaos as a constant in life, coming to sometimes appreciate it. The paintings are an expression of how a chaotic endeavor can sometimes appear harmonious.” Fowler’s colorful abstracts create an interesting juxtaposition with Bender’s organized objects.
Catch this month-long exhibition beginning on the First Friday Artwalk, June 1st, and afterwards during Artwork Network Gallery & Event Center’s normal business hours of Monday-Friday 10am-5pm, and Saturdays 12-4pm.

A "mega frame" being constructed by framer Curt Fowler.
How’s this for a big project? Our framer, Curt Fowler, just emailed over an image of this 70″ x 90″ frame being constructed in Artwork Network Frame Design workroom.
Looking for a good custom framer in Denver? While Curt thrives on unique and unusual projects, don’t forget he can do all your “regular” framing needs, too. Artwork Network joins forces with Heidi Mendoza

Heidi Mendoza
Artwork Network is pleased to announce a new partnership with Denver interior designer Heidi Mendoza, owner of Re.Dzine (www.iredzine.com). Mendoza is well known for her collaboration on Architectural Workshop’s infamous Green Cube, a project recently highlighted in the 2011 Parade of Homes. It is this eye for unique “one-of-a-kind” style which makes Heidi Mendoza the perfect candidate to partner with original art resource Artwork Network.
“I believe Art and Accessories are like the jewelry of the space,” says Mendoza. “Furniture is the basic outfit, and you need art to complete the look… Not being an art expert, searching the right piece can be very time consuming and a bit intimidating, and I love the fact that I can rely on Artwork Network to help me to find the perfect piece for my clients.”
Artwork Network strives to be the key resource for interior designers like Heidi Mendoza, who look beyond “poster prints” to include affordable fine art in their designs. Melanie Houston, an Artwork Network sales consultant, says, “It’s wonderful to work with a designer who sees the role art plays in creating an emotion or image for a physical space. Heidi also understands the importance of owning original art, and that art doesn’t need to be expensive to be meaningful or inspirational. We are looking forward to our future collaborations.”
