ARTIST STATEMENT
Being born deaf has caused me to perceive the world in a unique way. I sometimes misunderstand people, causing a frustration that I channel into my art. In the absence of the full range of auditory information, I have also developed the habit of seeing and solving problems visually. My art embodies this approach to life, combining my creative imagination and my social awareness in works that I express through a variety of mediums. For instance, when I listen to music, I enjoy the sound without usually understanding the lyrics, so music is a purer emotional experience for me, and I express that emotional experience as I paint in the form of abstract expressionism.
